Library Media Center

Mission:

The mission of the Library Media Center Program, in addition to supporting the curriculum through a variety of resources, is to educate students and staff on becoming effective and discerning users of ideas, information and literature and to nurture a love for lifelong reading.

Approximately 15,000 volumes plus online technology and databases.

Databases

The Library Media Center subscribes to two on-line databases to supplement student work and achievement. Please contact Ms. Williams at awilliams@olvpatriots.org for User Name and Password needed for home access.

World Book Online:

World Book Online

World Book Online is an encyclopedia on the Internet and so much more! Updated daily with current information, World Book Online includes “Today in History,” “Current Events,” atlas, pictures and student and parent resource links. It also includes a Spanish language encyclopedia.

Ebscohost:

Ebscohost Online

Magazine and journal databases for both Lower and Middle Divisions. Ebscohost (for Middle Division) includes MiddleSearch Plus, Funk & Wagnells New World Encyclopedia, EBSCO Animals and Primary Search. Searchasaurus (for Lower Division) includes Primary Search, general encyclopedia, encyclopedia on animals, dictionary, and pictures.

Library/Circulation Rules:

  • Pre-Kindergarten students may check out one book per week.
  • Kindergarten through eighth grade students may check out two books per week. Students may check out additional materials per Librarian and Teacher approval.
  • Students may renew a book one time if needed. Students must bring the book to the library to have it scanned in order to renew.
  • Overdue notices will be sent home as a reminder. We do not charge for overdue books.
  • Students are expected to pay for lost or damaged books.
  • Students may visit the library outside of scheduled library time with written permission from their teacher.
  • Teachers may schedule additional library time as quarterly schedules permit.
